Biography

Dr Matthew Readette is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Advanced Studies in Education at the 海角射区. His research examines mobility and how the movement of people, knowledge and prestige is organised within education and education systems.

He is particularly interested in the role of education in shaping socio-spatial mobility and what makes it possible. Central to this is how individual biographies and aspirations interact with institutional, social and spatial conditions as they relate to education. His work has explored teacher workforce mobility, study abroad, international education, academic mobility, and the geopolitical dimensions of education.

His current research examines the existence and development of recurring mobility pathways and the ways that movement can accumulate, circulate and reproduce advantage over time. This includes research on elite academic mobility and the formation of institutional prestige pathways, drawing on his Nobel Laureate Mobility Dataset to reconstruct long-term patterns of movement between scholars and institutions.
