Nuff of the Puff was a locally developed tobacco control campaign led by Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) to support Aboriginal people in the Kimberley to quit smoking and reduce exposure to tobacco smoke. The campaign used plain language, local humour, and culturally relevant messaging to resonate with community members across generations.
Rather than relying on fear-based approaches, Nuff of the Puff focused on empowerment, personal choice, and protecting family and community, particularly children and Elders. It was delivered through community activities, local media, and health service settings, with Aboriginal Health Workers playing a key role in sharing messages and linking people to quit support.
The campaign was an early example of community-led social marketing within the Tackling Indigenous Smoking program and demonstrated the effectiveness of culturally grounded, strengths-based approaches in promoting smoke-free norms. Resources developed for the campaign included posters, stickers, magnets and a flip chart to support clinicians to deliver cessation support.
