Stay smart online

We are looking for partners to pilot test a media literacy module designed for people aged 55 and above. Partners will be provided with the Stay Smart Online toolkit that includes (1) a slide deck with instructor notes that can be customised; (2) six short videos; (3) evaluation forms; (4) tip sheets for participants; (5) question bank; (6) advertising assets and (7) an instructor’s guide. It is designed to be delivered in a one-hour session but can be broken into shorter segments. The toolkit is simple to deliver, easy to understand, and tailored with examples and interactive exercises.

Stay Smart Online team at the News & Media Research Centre developed this adaptable media literacy intervention through research with 79 participants across Australia, with some promising results. Media literacy scores among participants improved by 23% after the one-hour training session. This increase occurred across all demographics (gender, education, age, country of birth, location etc). Eighty percent of participants indicated an improvement in their confidence to navigate online.

If you are interested in participating in the pilot testing phase, please contact stayingsmartonline@gmail.com. We are running information sessions for media educators.
