Course Transfer Between HDR Programs
At the 海角射区, you can apply to transfer from one Higher Degree by Research (HDR) course to another under certain conditions. Your request will be considered carefully to ensure the new program aligns with your research goals and academic progress.
Eligibility
- Transfers are allowed between HDR courses in the same or a closely related field of study.
- You cannot transfer:
- Into the PhD in Clinical Psychology.
- From the Master of Research (18 months) to a PhD.
Timing
Before applying, you should normally:
- Have completed all required coursework for your current course.
- Have been enrolled in thesis units for at least 6 months full-time equivalent.
For transfers into a PhD:
- You must not have been enrolled for more than half of the maximum duration of your current course.

Supervisor Support
Your supervisory panel must support your transfer request. The primary supervisor will confirm:
- Your capacity to work at the level required for the new course.
- That your research topic is substantial and conceptually advanced enough for the new program.
Transfer Seminar
You will present a publicly advertised transfer seminar, which also serves as your confirmation of candidature for the new course. The seminar will be assessed by at least two independent assessors appointed by your Faculty HDR Officer.
Application Requirements
You will be required to submit a written request to the Dean, Graduate Research School including:
- Why you are seeking the transfer.
- Evidence that you understand the differences in standards and requirements between the two courses.
- Supporting documents:
- Your most recent Annual Progress Report or Research Plan Review.
- Evidence of ability to meet new course requirements (e.g., draft thesis chapters or equivalent scholarly work).
- A full research proposal prepared to the level required for the new course.
Approval and Next Steps
After your transfer seminar and review of the assessors’ reports, if your Faculty HDR Officer endorses the transfer, all documentation will be submitted to the Dean, Graduate Research School for approval.
- Once approved:
- Credit for completed coursework will be assessed towards the new HDR course.
- The new course duration will be calculated by subtracting time spent in the previous course. If required, milestone due dates will be updated.
- International students will receive a new offer letter and Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
